THE ISLAND

Being the biggest island of the Sporades, Skyros immediatelly impresses visitors by its extreme environmental contrasts. The northern part of the island is covered with forests while the southern part is rocky and wild.
Most villages are situated in the northern part. Chora or Chorio, the capital of the island offers a breathtaking view of the whole island and is located at a distance of 10 km from the main port. Rich in picturesque narrow streets and houses built in the architectural style of the Aegean Sea, Chora offers a great variety of food and entertainment.

However, apart from the capital , the island is full of beautiful villages that you need to discover.
Molos, Magazia, Palamari with its archaeological site, as well as Atsitsa and Pefkos are only a few of the precious gems of Skyros which are worth visiting.
You will also have the opportunity tosee the adorable horses of Skyros, this rare breed of horses, are famous all over the world.

THE BEACHES

There are so many beaches on the island that it will be really difficult to visit them all. This is the reason why you have to make your stay the longest possible.
Wherever you go, from the big sandy beach connecting Molos with Magazia to Palamari, as well as th Girismata beach -the most popular one with tourists- you will be amazed by the crystal clear waters and the wild beauty of the landscape.
You should also definitely visit the relatively isolated beaches of Kira Panagia, Petritsa and Theotokos, the beach of Aghios Petros near Atsitsa, the beaches Kalamitsa and Acherounes, as well as the beach of the village Pefkos.
On the other hand, if you believe that you have seen all the beaches -which is something impossible- it would be a good idea to get on a boat (kaiki) which will take you to the small islands nearby or explore the sea caves of Pentelaki and Diatrypiti.
